Well, does anyone else find themselves watching repeats of 'The Beginning' or is it just me, maybe the battle music is too catchy, seem to hum it a lot... anyway, the ratings are in and it's done good. An average of 1.63 million or there abouts is pretty good, especially since it's on Dave a channel many people may not tune into to, because it's channel 12 and not 1-5. Would be interesting to see what the viewing figures would be like if the BBC agreed to air repeats. Not going to happen though.

The competition to win a Red Dwarf X Blu-Ray is going into it's final week, the winner will be picked on the 30th November. Depending where they are in the world they should get it not long after. Good luck to everyone that has taken part, it's not really a hard one this time laugh

Taken from

Space battles, quantum entanglement, and love triangles with snack dispensers, are just some of problems facing the boys from the Dwarf as they return in a brand new series. Red Dwarf X, the 10th series of the legendary sci-fi sitcom, airs exclusively on Dave and Dave HD this October.

Red Dwarf X returns with 6 x 30 min stand alone episodes, recorded in front of a studio audience and reunites the much loved original cast of Chris Barrie (Rimmer), Craig Charles (Lister), Danny John-Jules (Cat) and Robert Llewellyn (Kryten).

The brand new series, written and directed by Doug Naylor, begins with the Dwarfer's mining ship still creaking though the wastelands of unchartered deep space, but the posse soon stumble upon the mysteriously abandoned SS Trojan. As they inspect the ship Rimmer receives an SOS distress call from an old foe and is suddenly faced with the dilemma of his life.

This sounds interesting.... cannot wait for it to air now.

The competition will end this month, so only a few days left. I can tell you that there has been 1 correct answer so far so that person will 100% win, unless more correct answer appear in which case the % will decrease as all correct answers will be entered into a draw. straight face Good luck to everyone laugh

Subject: New Red Dwarf X Trailer and Laptop crash
Date: 2012-07-24 10:31:03

The first trailer for Red Dwarf X is on YouTube. Not only does it look a little dark like series 5, but the comedy seems to be going back to the old style also. What made Back to Earth great was the progression of the story and the evolution of the show overall, rounded off with a emotional ending not seen in Red Dwarf before. The actors are older now, so will the old style comedy still suit them, only time will tell.

In other news, the lack of updates recently comes from my laptop crashing and dying on me... sad face and as it has all the web development software on, it's not good. I am trying to fix it, but may take a bit of time. Expect the trailer to be shown here in the future though.

New Red Dwarf series to be filmed at the end of the year, Red Dwarf X as it is numbered means that Back to Earth was a mini series IX. Obviously this is great news for all Red Dwarf fans and I personally hope that Starbug makes a return. After all Back to Earth showed that Red Dwarf ha reverted to it's pre-series 8 shape, so the nano-bots could have had a hand in it.

Speculation is sure to hit the internet, so make sure you 'like' my facebook page and comment yourselves. Post what you would like to see, and maybe mention something that you would like to see a return of.

At that time there were many Red Dwarf fan sites, but 13 years later most have died out, and others are not far behind. This probably is mostly due to sites such as Facebook proving new ways to present information. But anyway, enough of this, have a look around, and enjoy.

I should mention that at some point in the future I will be proving a video or two of DJ2009 laugh So something t look forward to.

News: DVD + Misc
Date: 2009-07-07

Of course the DVD for Back to Earth has been released, if you do not have it, then I suggest you get it. It has the Directors cut, the Making of part 2, deleted scenes and of course smeg ups. The making of BTE part 2 does explain a number of things that people complained about, like Rimmers uniform for example, while the smeg ups are of course as funny as you would expect. Overall the whole show does feel and work much better as one piece, rather than three, so it is totally worth owning. Hopefully a bluray version will also be released.

On the other front there is not much news going around now, just a few rumours regarding the future of the show, but again they are just rumours.

News: Making of Toughts
Date: 2009-04-14

The making of Back to Earth was nice, it showed a lot of extra things, with many laughs.... calling the AA to the Rovers Return haha, no wonder they never showed up.

The sugar glass section was a nice insight also, and does show that the actors are very professional. A one take only shot, completed nicely in one take.

The China town street looked great, when I first saw the pictures I thought that they had actually shot on location somewhere and not a small set quickly built, well done!

Overall the show is very nice, but people were to quick to judge after the first few episodes... but then again, should we be really seeing then as episodes? It was split into 3 parts to cover the Easter weekend, yet it still remains a 1 hour 30 minute (roughly) single episode, much like Pete 1 & 2 became a feature length and Back in the Red 1, 2 & 3 became a feature episode. As such, we must remember that this is movie length and just as any movie starts with a little action, then slow story building before moving into the last bit of action, Back to Earth had all of that. It started with a little action (attack by the squid), it then moved onto story telling (metaphysical odyssey), before the finale starting with a little more action (chase though china town) and then the most surprising bit, Lister wanting to stay... this then became an emotional ending tying in with the emotional start.

For this reason, you can not have wall to wall action, otherwise it would become very unrealistic.

News: Third Episode Thoughts
Date: 2009-04-12

What can I say... if you have seen it then you already know what it was like. It was amazing, all those that gave up with the second episode need taking outside, with a double barrel shotgun to be blown away... their negative comments have no had their day.

First thoughts of the show were good, an additional voice over and landing sequence in place of yesterday last 30 seconds made the start of this episode run smoothly. And although I do not watch Coronation Street, I do roughly know the actors and thought that they lived up to what was imagined of them. Steve (I think) checking to see where Craig was, was a good touch. While Craig himself looking stunned and gob-smacked was also a very nice touch.

With the pyramid building finally included in the main story, the boys find their creator... who writes a very nice death for them, with a nice flash of their deaths to make you think it actually happened.

The type writer part was also a touch of pure class... and reminds us all of the spinal implant from Demons and Angels... only this time it was Lister having the fun.

Discovering that it was not reality was no real surprise, but Lister wanting to stay with an un-real Kochanski just to be happy was a surprise... but I was happy to see his common sense surface when he finally returned, knowing that the real Kochanski was alive and out there, and that he could now go in search of her.... this has given him a new found sense and purpose for living.

A female despair squid that brings joy instead of despair, pure class... this is taking it back to the old days. And we must Remember that this is a special, NOT series IX, but what a damn good special.

I will be of course getting the Blu-Ray version of this when it is released :), and although many of you probably buy from amazon directly, I will of course have the DVD listed on my site for direct purchase from amazon.

All we need now is a new series :)... well done guys, you have made us proud.

News: Second Episode Thoughts
Date: 2009-04-11

I can honestly say that there are going to be a lot of nit-pickers going over this saying that it was crap... just take a look at the official forums.

Of course, right from the start this was always going to be a 21st Anniversary 3-part special, and as such we have to remember that, and that it is not series IX. Of course, we must also remember that they have lost Red Dwarf and must use public transport in a dimension where Red Dwarf is a popular T.V show.

As I suspected, Kryten had some amazing lines, the Psi-Scan bit was amazing. The other characters all remains true to themselves, yet there is an air of emotion from Lister with the news that Kochanski could be alive somewhere. The Cat, being the Cat, also did not fly out of the T.V, yet landed on his feet... small feature, but good.

I do not think the acting of the kids was very good, but at least smeghead has been used against Rimmer now.

The plot was drawn out a little with the constant movement of the crew to find their creators. And Rimmers extremely intelligent work on recovering the address from the photo does leave many questions... it is almost like the Cat being intelligent in A.R.

The introduction of the Carbug was nice... I am happy that the crew do not actually own it, having it belong to the head of the fan club seems right.

All in all, this episode has been much funnier, with a very strange plot twists... but can only get better. Remember, this is an anniversary show NOT series IX.

Part 3, Dave - 9pm Sunday 12.

News: New First Episode Thoughts
Date: 2009-04-10

The first episode of Back to Earth has just been shown, and if you check the Dave live chat, there is a mixed reaction. Many people do not like it, many say it was not funny because there was no canned laughter, many want Holly, many want explanations of what happened... one guy even said that anyone who thinks it is as good as series 5 is not a true fan.

Of course those people are smeggers

I did enjoy the episode, it starts off slow with a few jokes (probably a little too complex for most people) but then builds up into not only better jokes, but a fight with a dimension jumping leviathan. The characters remained true to themselves, with Lister being as gross as always (I could probably say going back to series 2/3 style), Rimmer looking out for himself and as usual, cocks things up and the Cat being just as funny as he was in many of the classic episodes. Kryten of course was Kryten, and although he did not have too much to say in the first episode, I am lookin I think the thing everyone has to remember is that people had mixed reactions after series 5, 6, 7 and 8.... in a few years time this will go down as a classic. It also had to be remembered that, although aired as an episode, it is in fact a special and as such, complaints about it ending abruptly are slightly childish... wait for the DVD so you can see it all in one go... it will not end abruptly them!

And now onto the canned laughter... I for one think that a series should be filmed in front of an audience for laughter or not at all.... series 7 was filmed without an audience and then canned laughter placed on top. Now although I like series 7 (I do not hate it, that is for sure), I think the canned laughter was bad, and I actually enjoy watching the Xtended versions of episodes as they have no laughter track.

On a final note, Red Dwarf like everything else has evolved, yet the comedy and main characters remain the same, you can not and indeed should not compare Oh, and CGI does not matter.... come on people, it is a space program in 2009, it looked very pretty, what more do you want, crap low cost sets? Stop living in the past and join us in the 21st century!

I am very much looking forward to tomorrow nights episode and indeed the DVD so I can watch the whole thing as one. Until tomorrow....

News: Olympics
Date: 2008-02-14

Steven Spielberg has refused to help China with the opening and closing celebrations at the Beijing Olympics this year on the ground that they are helping the Sudanese government kill innocent people by supplying aid to them. China of course has an interest in Sudan and especially the oil there, but it is wrong for an American to complain on these grounds as it is the same situation as Iraq, in which of course America invaded as they have an interest in the oil there. On Spielberg's behave, this is nothing more than professional misconduct and such an event should not be used to make these issues apparent.

But of course it's not just the oil supply, if we are talking about Genocide lets not forget about the World War and the fact that America dropped nuclear bombs on Japan in which over 200,000 people died AND they used chemical weapons in Vietnam in which 500, 000 have died and about 650,000 still suffering from their effects. America is actually more of a terrorist state than anywhere else in the world now, they even have own weapons of mass destruction hidden in underground bunkers.

Although this is site news, it's a special site news that deserves to be placed in this new section :) As most of you may know, Larry's Red Dwarf Homepage has been around since late 1998 being hosted on tripods free service, so although this is a new address with new features and everything, it still kind of the old site. So my site has been recognised by the Times Saturday Magazine, that's great news, and I would probably take the offer IF my site had a shop that was pulling in more than £400 :) Nevermind, there are always other magazines I suppose.

Actually, this isn't new news, but it's worth putting in this section anyway. The article was in the Daily Mirror a while back, so here are a few extracts:-

Coronation Street actor Craig Charles has been exposed as a serious crack user in a report by the Mirror.

The red top has today published a series of grainy black and white pictures depicting the Liverpudlian smoking what the claim is crack from a make-shift pipe in the back of his car while a driver and what must have been a concealed camera looks on. Charles has admitted to suffering from addictions to crack cocaine in the past but appeared to have sorted himself for the sake of his wife, three children and healthy career with Coronation St and the BBC.

The Mirror claims that Charles scored drugs from a dealer in London before heading for his car and driving up to Manchester. I'LL do anything to get my life back on track," said Corrie actor Craig Charles last week after we were treated to the unedifying sight of him on a four-hour crack binge in the back of a car. The man who it's rumoured has spent twenty five grand in four months on crack only stopped long enough to pore over a stack of porno mags - and then was hard at it again.

"I'm devastated and humbled," said the actor whose sordid lifestyle was exposed by the Daily Mirror after his driver took photos of him taking 60 hits of crack. Now he says the story's made him confront the fact he has a drug problem. These latest revelations about Charles’ personal life are the latest in a long line of problems for the well off actor; In 1994 Charles was accused of raping a stripper with a friend, a crime he was later cleared for. Charles has previously said of his former drug problems: “I just tried to escape through drugs. I didn’t want to be me anymore. At first it was fun. You feel part of the scene, one of the boys. You’re young, you’re successful…but gradually cocaine eats away at your self respect.”

The Mirror claim that towards the end of the journey Charles’ driver left the car to use the bathroom and Charles became so paranoid he was forced to call the man back saying: “Come back mate! Please!”While waiting for the driver to return he said repeatedly: “You can talk and drive, mate. Please! You can talk and drive, mate. Please!”Then when he did finally return Charles admitted to him: “I was quite para…paranoid there.” The Mirror reported that they would be making their dossier of evidence available to the police.

Well this was probably always going to come, but the Re-Mastered DVDs have started to make an appearance, with the first series to be released this November in the UK. Many people had problems with the Re-Mastered takes, however they are supposed to be how the episodes should have been shown before all the changes. So it's up to you people if you get them or not... Remember though, it's always nice to see our favourite episodes with a little extra lines in anyway :)
